Resumption of activity in the Soviet and post-Soviet times

Thanks to the tireless prayers and personal labors of Schimitropolitan Iuvenaly (and then – Archbishop of Kursk and Belgorod) all resistances of local authorities were overcome, who in every possible way prevented the return of the desert to the Russian Orthodox Church.

7 August 1989 year Root hermitage was returned to the Kursk diocese. And already 15 August the first service was held (after 66 years of oblivion) on the spot, where the majestic temple of the monastery in the name of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin stood.

The first religious procession after a long break took place 15 June 1990 of the year, on the ninth Friday after Easter. It differed in scale from its historical predecessors.: its length was only 300 meters on the territory of the monastery. Subsequent moves have acquired their former historical scale.

Capital repairs

S 1989 year begins the revival of the desert from the ruins. AT 1990 year, the entrance gates of the monastery were restored in their original form. AT 1991 the bell tower above the Holy Doors and the monastery refectory were restored. For a period 1994-97 Mr. Mr. a unique covered gallery with descents to the spring and the Temple of the Life-Giving Spring were restored. Decorated and consecrated 19 September 1991 Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, refurbished hutch. A large economic yard of the monastery was built in the new place, where a skete with a house church of St. Seraphim of Sarov was built.

11 December 2004 1999, the historical and cultural center hosted the first meeting of the Board of Trustees for the revival of the male Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Root Hermitage Monastery. The programs adopted by the Council made it possible to carry out a large amount of work - the buildings of the Bishop's Hotel were restored, abbot's corps, renovated Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the painting of the Holy Doors has been restored, gasification of the monastery. On the site of the once destroyed, the main cathedral church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was recreated. Works on the improvement of the monastery territory were carried out. Restored gallery (stairs) to the spring and the Temple of the Life-Giving Spring.

24 September 2012 Metropolitan of Kursk and Rylsk Herman, Archbishop of Berlin-Germany and Great Britain Mark and Bishop of Zheleznogorsk and Lgovsk Benjamin performed the rite of consecration of the restored church in the name of the icon of the Mother of God "Life-Giving Spring" and the first Divine Liturgy in it. A distinctive and unique feature of the temple is the porcelain iconostasis., made by Yekaterinburg craftsmen.
